The US Army: We killed a leader and member of ISIS in Syria news

|

The US military said on Friday that it carried out strikes on Thursday in Syria that led to the killing of two ISIS members, one of whom was a leader.

The US Central Command said, “Yesterday we carried out a raid targeting the leader of ISIS, Abu Yusef, known as Mahmoud, in Deir ez-Zor.”

It explained in a statement that the strikes took place in a part of Syria that was previously controlled by the government of Bashar al-Assad and Russia.

She said that the raid in Deir ez-Zor “is part of our commitment to disrupt terrorist efforts to plan and carry out attacks against us.”

This comes amid warnings from Iraq and Western countries of the danger that ISIS will be able to reorganize its ranks in Syria, about two weeks after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the armed opposition taking control of the reins of government in the country.

In the same context, the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) announced on Friday the presence of two thousand American soldiers in Syria, a number that exceeds previous estimates that indicated the presence of only 900 soldiers.

The Pentagon confirmed that US forces will continue their missions in Syria to prevent the resurgence of ISIS.
