New Delhi. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has appreciated the government efforts to control the Covid-19 pandemic. India has managed to do a better job on various parameters related to COVID-19. We have consistently maintained the lowest mortality rate and highest recovery rate worldwide.
Referring to the contribution of scientists, the Health Minister said that our scientists have done a better job and they worked hard 24 hours and gave us two vaccines which were made in India and have been approved for emergency use in the country.
The largest vaccination campaign in the world is going on in India and is progressing at a fast pace and more than one crore doses have been given so far. He also said that India has often been called the pharmacy of the world. But now it is emerging as a major center of manufacturing of Covid-19 vaccine in the world.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that by paying full attention to the management of COVID-19, our government has left no stone unturned in ensuring other essential health services. In this regard, various policy interventions and use of technology like tele-medicine services played a major role. Our e-Sanjeevani platform recorded 10 lakh doctor-patient consultations in a short period.
The Union Minister said that through far-reaching programs like Pradhan Mantri Jan-Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Self-reliant Swasth Bharat Yojana, we are now making positive changes in the policies of our health system. New thinking is being shaped by the National Medical Commission, Nursing Commission Bill and the National Commission for Related Health Care Professionals Bill.
He said that ambitious plans have been made for the expansion of medical colleges and restructuring of the health infrastructure in India. We are continuously working to make the system of providing health services in the country very active.
The Union Minister addressed the Global Indian Physicians Congress organized by the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) through video conference.
