The improvement of places with the memorials of the Great Patriotic War helps to preserve the memory of the heroism of those people who defended our country and sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom. This work is carried out in Russia annually, said Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“Victory Day is one of the most significant holidays in the history of our country. This day is dedicated to the feat of Soviet soldiers, who fought with the Nazi invaders with honor. The Great Patriotic War left a deep mark in history, and we are obliged to honor the memory of the dead so that their victims are not forgotten. The improvement of commemorative places is one of the ways to express respect and gratitude to the heroes. The update of the spaces on which monuments, military memorials, memory alleys, eternal fire, mass graves are located are carried out annually as part of the federal project “Formation of a comfortable urban environment“, which this year became part of the national project “Infrastructure for life”. Since 2019, more than 1170 such sites have been landscaped, ”said Marat Khusnullin.

Reconstruction and visual transformation of commemorative territories make a significant contribution to the preservation of the country’s history and cultural heritage. Among the main improvement works are the planning of the territory, landscaping, installation of additional lighting, the arrangement of pedestrian zones and places for the placement of military equipment from the time of the Great Patriotic War.

“This year, Russia celebrates the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. On the occasion of these events that are important for the history of the country, festive events are planned in the regions, including the improvement of 97 memorable spaces that emphasize the significance of the feat of people uniting to preserve their Fatherland. It is planned to improve the largest number of objects in the Sverdlovsk region – 11, the Omsk region – 9, the Republic of Buryatia – 9 and the Bryansk region – 7. This year, the improvement of commemorative places in cities and settlements, which, while in the rear, during the Great Patriotic War, were scheduled and brought the victory. Among them are a walking route from the Central City Square to Victory Park – a Memorial of Glory in the city of Verkhnyaya Tura of the Sverdlovsk Region, Victory Park in the Kamensk village of the Republic of Buryatia, Victory Park and Public Spaces along the Kupa Street in the city of Mogoche Tables Territory, ”said the Minister of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities Irek Fayzullin.

For example, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, within the framework of the federal project “Formation of a comfortable urban environment” from 2019 to 2024, 28 commemorative public spaces were landscaped. Among them are memorable squares and memorials with heroic symbols of the Red Army. Work was completed to improve the square of an unknown soldier in the city of Gorodets. Every year on May 9, the inhabitants of the settlement come to the square to lay flowers to the monument and recall their relatives who defended their homeland.

In the Smolensk region 11 historical objects are landscaped. Among them is a monument with the BM-13 reactive installation (Katyusha), which is installed in honor of the world’s first reactive artillery. The monument is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance, is considered the attraction and business card of the city of Rudny, the Smolensk region.

In the city of Kotelnikovo, the Volgograd region, a monument of the Great Patriotic War “Mathetic grave of the Soviet soldiers-tankers who died during the Stalingrad Battle of Stalingrad” was landscaped. Rotmistrov Street is one of the main streets of the city and connects the railway and the bus station with the central part of the city. The monument located on it is compositionally united with a well -maintained in 2018 by the Central Park of Culture and Rest, the entrance to which is located nearby.

It is also worth noting that the All-Russian competition for the best design of windows and entrance groups of non-residential, social, cultural and other objects “Victory Spring”, which Minstroy conducts together with the Association for the Development of the Presidential Administration and the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Redding, is devoted to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The regional stage of the competition is held until May 12, 2025, the federal one will be held on May 15 – June 11.
