Intelligence organizations are the first line of defense of each country. In Israel, their role is critical. The intelligence warning is from the four legs of the national security concept, and intelligence organizations also play a critical role in the other three legs: deterrence, decision and protection.
The supreme mission of the intelligence organizations – the AMM, the Shin Bet and the institution – is to monitor – and, if necessary, to thwart – security threats, both outside the state’s borders, such as military attacks or terrorist attacks, and from it – espionage, subversion and foreign influence. As we saw on October 7, the failure of the intelligence community in achieving these goals is a very heavy price.
