New Delhi. Be it dry fruits or spices, saffron has always been on top in terms of rates. Among the spices and dry fruits, saffron is the only one which is sold at the rate of lakhs of rupees per kg and if its prices fall so much that businessmen are put in a panic, then it is natural to be surprised. Even before Diwali and the arrival of the new crop, the price of saffron has reduced by thousands of rupees per kg. Preparations have started for the arrival of new saffron in the market. Accordingly, the price of saffron is expected to reduce further.

Saffron prices reduced by Rs 50 thousand per kg- Mohammad Azam, a businessman of Noori spices and dry fruits, says that the situation in Kashmir after the removal of 370 is not hidden from anyone. Every kind of business was closed from Kashmir. The supply of saffron was also affected. Then the effect of Corona started from February and lockdown started from March. The result was that the earlier crop has not yet come out and now the new crop will arrive only after a few days.

Before the lockdown, the most commonly sold common variety of saffron was being sold for up to Rs 200 per gram. But now since the market has opened after the end of the lockdown, its price has come down to Rs 150 per gram. Actually, saffron is available in the market for up to Rs 5 lakh per kg.

Saffron is grown in 200 villages of Kashmir- Saffron is known by many names in India. At some places it is called Saffron and at other places it is called Saffron. In India, saffron is cultivated in Kishtwar, Badgaon, Srinagar and Pampore of Jammu and Kashmir. Saffron cultivation has also started in some parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Saffron is valued in the world based on its quality. The price of Kashmir saffron in the world markets is up to Rs 5 lakh per kg. Saffron plants start flowering in the first week of October and are ready in November. Kashmir is second after Iran in the production of saffron.
