Killed, including two girls, in Rapid Support bombing of a camp in El Fasher news

3 people, including two girls, were killed and 3 others were injured in an artillery shelling carried out by the Rapid Support Forces on the Abu Shouk camp for displaced people in the city of El Fasher, the center of North Darfur state, western Sudan.

The emergency room of Abu Shouk camp for displaced people reported – in a statement – that artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces on the camp led to the death of one person and two girls, and the injury of 3 others, explaining that the innocent, defenseless people in the camp became victims of continuous artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces.

The statement added that the camp is not a military headquarters, but rather for civilians who fled the ongoing fighting in the country, calling on all sides not to bomb the camp because they are losing numbers of men, women and children every day who also die of hunger.

El Fasher is witnessing ongoing violent battles between the Sudanese army and its allied force from the Darfur armed movements, and the Rapid Support Forces, which have been imposing a siege on El Fasher for months and seeking to control it, and have repeatedly tried to storm it but have failed to do so.

Mass exodus

In a related context, the displacement movement continues from the Zamzam, El Fasher and Kabkabiya camps to the Tawila and Saraf Umra localities in North Darfur as a result of continuing battles and bombing. According to the International Organization for Migration, 267 families were displaced from the Zamzam camp in El Fasher to the Tawila locality.

In Kabkabiya, North Darfur, about 160 families were displaced to the town of Saraf Umra, North Darfur, due to the recent air raids that the city witnessed, and 117 families were displaced from Kabkabiya camp to Sortony camp.

Also in North Darfur, displaced people in Tawila and Dar es Salaam localities complained about the deteriorating security situation and the failure to receive any aid since the outbreak of the war.

One of the displaced people said that the High Dam camp in Tabit and the Shaddad, Umm Darisai and Naivasha camps in Shangil Tobay, south of El Fasher, are witnessing harsh humanitarian conditions, calling on the international community to intervene urgently and deliver aid.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has witnessed confrontations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in more than 20,000 deaths and more than 14 million displaced and refugees, according to estimates by the United Nations and local authorities.
