Stock market today: the Dow struggles to find its direction despite Nvidia’s rebound


U.S. stocks opened higher Thursday as shares of Nvidia Corp., the world’s most valuable company, shrugged off premarket losses and traded higher.

The latest round of weekly jobless claims showed the number of Americans filing for jobless benefits fell to its lowest level in seven months, reinforcing a sense of optimism about the strength of the U.S. economy.

The S&P 500 rose 20 points, or 0.3%, to 5,936.

The Dow rose 100 points, or 0.2%, to 43,494.

The Nasdaq Composite was up 23 points, or 0.1%, to 18,996.

Nvidia Corp. rose 1.5%, to $148 per share.
