Two Egyptian teams face two teams from South Africa in the semi -finals of the African Champions sports

Two Egyptian teams are played against two South African teams in the CAF Champions League semi -finals this season, in the face of rare occurrence.

The defending champions Al -Ahly continues to seek the fifth title in 6 seasons in Pretoria tomorrow, Saturday, against Mamelodi Sun Downs, who had previously caused the Egyptian team a record defeat.

On Saturday, Pyramids hopes to enhance his rapid appearance as a power force when he faces Orlando Peries in Soweto.

Pyramids participates in the African Champions League for the second time in its history.

The return matches will be held in Cairo next Friday, and the two winners will qualify for the final match that will be held from two games at the end of May and early June.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that two teams from the same countries have faced the African Champions League final.

In 2020, Al-Ahly defeated the Moroccan Wydad 5-1 in the total of the semi-final matches, while Zamalek surpassed Raja in the two teams’ matches.

Al-Ahly defeated its rival Zamalek in the final match that was held in the Egyptian capital.

Al -Ahly is the dominant power in African football and won the CAF Champions League 12 times, while the other three teams that reached the semi -finals have achieved only two titles (Beirz in 1995 and Sun Downs in 2016).

But despite its strong record, Al -Ahly is not the favorite candidate to qualify, because of his unconfirmed level in the group stage after he finished second in his group.

His Swiss coach Marcel Kuller has been criticized in recent days, after the team also stumbled against Pyramids in the Egyptian League.

Sen Downs had previously achieved a record 5-0 victory over Al-Ahly in the quarter-finals in 2019, and he scored 5 other goals against the Egyptian team in Pretoria two years ago in the group stage.
