US President-elect Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million to fund his inauguration ceremony scheduled for January 20.
This is a record amount, as senior technology company executives and major donors have expressed their willingness to make significant financial contributions to support the financing of this event.
A source familiar with the fundraising campaign – but not authorized to speak publicly – confirmed that these amounts have already been collected so far, according to what was reported by the Associated Press.
The source said that Trump’s inauguration committee is expected to raise more than $200 million by the end of the campaign, while Trump’s inauguration committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment yesterday, Wednesday.
The committee has not yet revealed how these donations will be spent, as private donations are usually used to cover the costs of events surrounding the inauguration ceremony, such as costs related to the swearing-in ceremony itself, in addition to the inaugural parade and luxurious ceremonial balls.
The large amount raised by Trump’s presidential inauguration committee so far is more than double the amount raised by President Joe Biden four years ago, when he raised about $62 million for his inauguration, according to Federal Election Commission records.
Trump broke the record for donations during his first inauguration in 2016, when he raised nearly $107 million.
