The cause of the dismissal
According to the New York Times, the dismissal of General Brown reflects Trump’s insistence that the army leadership has become obsessed with issues of diversity and integration, and lost its focus on its primary role as a combat force to protect the country.
Defense Minister Beit Higseth had previously stated that Brown should be said because of his focus on diversity, equality and inclusion programs within the army.
“The first thing you have to do is to dismiss the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,” said Higseth, during his appearance on the “Sean Ryan Show” program last November. “Any general involved in diversity efforts must be said. Either you are devoted to war only, and that’s all. This is the only test that concerns us,” he added.
Although Higseth stood next to General Brown on his first day inside the Pentagon in October 2023, and expressed his aspiration to work with him, the tensions quickly appeared.
According to officials, Brown was not invited to major meetings with Trump, which made it clear that he was not part of the president’s close circle.
