The United Nations has warned that the frequent floods deepens the humanitarian needs in Sudan, stressing that thousands of Sudanese families need support and shelter urgently.
“These successive humanitarian crises occur in light of the continued fighting in Sudan, which hinders relief efforts and humanitarian work,” said United Nations spokesman Stefan Dujarik.

The UN spokesman called for the immediate endowment of hostilities, ensuring human access without obstacles, taking steps to protect civilians and increase international support to meet the enormous needs throughout Sudan.
Dujarik stressed that a joint evaluation and response mission includes about 10 international and international NGOs and non -local governmental organizations, which connect food and other vital supplies such as health care and protection services to relief for those affected by floods and earthquakes in the village of Darsin in South Darfur, in Sudan, as they have so far been able to help at least one thousand people at the affected people.
Dujarric added that the international workers in the humanitarian field and their partners are studying the results reached by the mission and needs in the region and how to enhance the response.
In turn, the International Organization for Migration reported that the floods in the village of Wad Al -Shaer, southeast of the governorate of Gedaref, displaced about 2,500 people and destroyed about 500 homes during the past two days.
The organization stated that hundreds of people were reported due to the floods last week in parts of the Red Sea state in eastern Sudan, and in the south of Darfur in the west.
Sudan usually witnesses during the fall season from June to October, heavy rains that cause widespread floods.
These natural disasters exacerbate the suffering of the Sudanese who have been under the weight of a continuous war since mid -April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, left more than 20 thousand dead and about 15 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations, while a research of American universities estimated the number of deaths by 130,000.
