Iranian President Masoud Beshshkian denounced the return of United Nations sanctions against Iran after activating the “trigger mechanism”, stressing that his country is ready to face any possible scenarios, and will not accept negotiations that drag it into new crises, he said.
“We reject and condemn any restrictions or penalties,” he said. “We are facing two options, either surrender, or steadfastness and relying on the energies of our people, and we will follow the choice of steadfastness,” he added.
Germany, France, and Britain (European Troika) announced early Sunday morning, on Sunday, the reactivation of United Nations sanctions against Iran, after the expiry of what is known as the “trigger mechanism” or “Snap Back”, accusing Tehran of not fulfilling its obligations in the 2015 nuclear agreement.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of the three countries called on Iran to refrain from any escalating action, noting that the re -imposition of United Nations sanctions is not the end of diplomacy.
For his part, the Iranian president stressed that his country has never and will never seek to possess nuclear weapons, noting that “this position is based on the fatwa of the guide and religious foundations.”
Criticism of the United States
Bouchakian added that the United States has followed “an illogical behavior towards our sincere efforts to reach a fair solution to the nuclear file.”
Despite his confirmation of his country’s readiness for “fair, logical and transparent dialogue”, he explained, “We will not accept negotiations that drag us into new problems and crises.”
He added, “The opposite party wants to acquire our capabilities for a short time, to later present new demands, and we reject it.”
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji said that the European Troika declaring activating the “trigger mechanism” is marred by a legal and procedural defect, and is considered “null and void.”
He added, in a letter addressed to the Secretary -General of the United Nations, that all restrictions related to the nuclear file end in mid -October. He stressed that Iran will not recognize any attempt to extend it, revive or implement it after that date, calling on the United Nations to prevent any attempt to revive it.
In turn, the Iranian Vice President, Muhammad Reza Aref, said that the government has approved plans to confront “unjust sanctions”, stressing the importance of “making decisions commensurate with the country’s conditions.”
With the return of international sanctions on Tehran, the Iranian riyal recorded its lowest level against the US dollar, and Iranian banks have entered the International Brunet Department.
