Syria and Jordan agree to establish a “higher coordination council” | news

On Thursday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al -Safadi held discussions in Damascus with both Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara and Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani, during which he confirmed his country’s support for the unity, security and stability of Syria.

In an oral message conveyed by Al -Safadi to the Syrian President, the King of Jordan Abdullah II confirmed the Kingdom’s support for Syria’s security and stability, and to stand with it in the reconstruction process.

For his part, the Syrian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s keenness on the Kingdom’s security and its rejection of violating it and enhancing cooperation in the security fields, including combating the Islamic State and smuggling drugs and weapons.

A joint statement issued after the two ministers’ discussions stated that it was agreed to form a higher council for coordination between Amman and Damascus, which includes multiple sectors, including energy, health, industry, trade, transportation, agriculture and water, provided that his first meetings will be held within weeks.

The joint statement indicated that Al -Safadi held extensive talks with Al -Shaibani, “I continued the outcomes of the summit between King Abdullah II and the President of Sharia, in Amman on February 26.”

Al -Safadi stressed the necessity of stopping the continuous Israeli attacks on Syria, and occupying part of its lands, and considered this “a clear violation of international law, a clear violation of the agreement to break the clash between Syria and Israel for the year 1974, and an escalation that pushes towards more tension and conflict in the region.”

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions have completed their control of the country, ending 61 years of the Baath Party rule, and 53 years of control of the Assad family, including 24 years, during which Bashar al-Assad took over the presidency (2000-2024).

During the 14 years of the conflict in Syria, Jordan suffered a large wave of displacement from the northern neighbor, in addition to the smuggling of drugs that the regime of ousted President Bashar al -Assad supports its manufacture and smuggling to the countries of the region and the world.
