Jewish culture has always been an exception to the historic landscape. While in ancient cultures kings were raised and criticized as a serious crime, the Bible, on the other hand, was full of leadership on leadership criticism – from Judah and Moshe to David and Solomon and the other kings of Israel and Judah.
The Sages, who continued this critical tradition, did not hesitate to criticize major characters, including themselves.
