Newsweek: Trump imposes strict restrictions on African country visas policy

|

The American news magazine revealed that the administration of President Donald Trump imposed new and strict restrictions on entry visas for Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria.

The magazine quoted the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as saying that the new policy restricts almost all non -diplomatic visas and non -immigrants to the citizens of these four countries, so that it is limited to only one entry for 3 months.

According to the magazine, this procedure is a fundamental change compared to previous policies, which allowed multiple entry visas valid for two years or more.

The magazine stated that the new restrictions add a new burden to the travelers, professionals and students from the four countries, who seek to visit or study the United States.

Fears

US officials stated that the motive behind this decision is concerns related to security and the principle of reciprocity in granting visas.

This step comes within a series of restrictions imposed by the White House on African and other Muslim countries.

Last month, the United States suspended all immigration and non -immigration visas for the citizens of Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan, as part of an additional tightening of border policies.

“We would like to confirm that the US government’s claim that this procedure stems from the principle of reciprocity does not reflect the actual reality precisely,” the magazine quoted Bayo Onanua, a spokesman for Nigeria, as saying on Thursday.

Periodic reviews

The US State Department stated that visa policies are subject to periodic reviews, and can be modified if the countries concerned have made mutual improvements or meet the new security standards.

President Donald Trump met in the White House – Wednesday – the heads of 5 West African countries, at a time when his administration is searching for additional countries to receive irregular migrants since the conclusion of an agreement with Panama in February, whereby a plane on board was sent on board more than 100 immigrants, to the country in Central America.

According to the American Wall Street Journal, according to the current and former US officials and officials that the American administration pressed the presidents of Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania, Gabon, and Guinea -Bissau to accept the immigrants that the United States has gone, and their countries of origin are rejected, or slowed in their recovery.
