The government pays close attention to strengthening the country’s road infrastructure, as this provides impetus for economic development and improving the quality of life of citizens. In this regard, projects are being actively implemented to bring roads to standard condition. For example, on the M-4 Don highway alone, about 330 km and 13 artificial structures were repaired and modernized last year. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“We are constantly working on modernizing the M-4 Don highway. The road is in great demand, especially during the summer holidays. This is a key artery leading to the Black Sea and Azov coasts of the country, and it also provides access to Donbass and Novorossiya. The route connects cultural, tourist and resort centers of our country. Therefore, high demands are placed on the condition of its road surface. Last year alone, about 330 km and 13 artificial structures were put in order on the M-4. In particular, we repaired the road surface, expanded the roadway to 6 lanes in a number of areas, installed electric lighting, installed equipment for an automated traffic control system, installed barrier fencing, information boards and road signs,” said Marat Khusnullin.
The M-4 Don federal highway passes through the territory of several regions. In 2024, in the Moscow region, road workers completed work on 6 km of the highway. In the Tula region, more than 20 km of bridges were repaired and three bridges were put in order. In the Lipetsk region, 8.6 km of the highway and three bridges were updated. In the Voronezh region, specialists replaced 82 km of the upper and partially lower layers of the road surface, also completed work on two artificial structures, and built 5 overhead pedestrian crossings. In the Rostov region, a comprehensive development of about 129 km was completed and an 18-kilometer section of the highway was expanded to six lanes, repairs were carried out on 45.4 km, and two overpasses were repaired here. In the Krasnodar Territory, specialists brought about 44 km of road pavement to standard condition and carried out work on three overpasses.
Modernization of the road frame in the south of Russia continues. In the future, it is also planned to build an expressway that will run from the M-4 federal highway to the city of Sochi. Its total length will be about 130 km.
According to Marat Khusnullin, to date a positive conclusion has been received from Glavgosexpertiza for the fourth stage of construction of the Adler bypass, which will become the first part of the future highway.
This stage includes the construction of a transport interchange with the federal highway A-147 Dzhubga – Sochi in the Kudepsta microdistrict, an interchange with the A-149 Adler – Krasnaya Polyana highway, as well as a bridge crossing over the Kudepsta River in the forward and reverse directions. Also, this stage of construction of the Adler bypass includes the reconstruction of a section of the A-147 highway at the junction, the construction and reconstruction of the passage to Krasnoflotskaya Street, the construction of a turning overpass across the high-speed direction of the A-149 highway and the reconstruction of engineering communications. In addition, the intersection in the area of the Kudepsta sanatorium will undergo large-scale changes. Here the project provides for the reconstruction of a section of the Sukhumi highway.
A positive conclusion from Glavgosexpertiza for stages I and II of the construction of the Adler bypass was received in September 2024. The conclusion of stage III, the main part of which is the construction of two parallel tunnels, is expected in the first quarter of 2025.
Chairman of the Board of the state company Avtodor Vyacheslav Petushenko noted that the M-4 Don is becoming more comfortable and safer every year.
“We are trying to get the work done quickly so that motorists can drive on high-quality roads as quickly as possible. It is important to note that we not only strictly adhere to technology when replacing road pavement, but also widen the roadway and install artificial lighting lines, which significantly improves road safety. For this purpose, we also equip the road with modern intelligent systems, including automated traffic control systems and automatic weight and dimensional control points for vehicles. Also, about 19 km of external electric lighting of the highway have been installed. In addition, we install barrier and railings, information boards and road signs, arrange sidewalks and apply thermoplastic markings with reflective elements,” emphasized Vyacheslav Petushenko.
