“Popularization of science and technology, attraction of talented youth to research activities are the key tasks of the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by President Vladimir Putin. Thanks to one of the initiatives – “Popular Science Tourism” – more and more research infrastructure facilities are becoming available to residents of our country. Last year, the flow of popular science excursions amounted to over 2 million people, including schoolchildren and students,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
The approval of GOST will become a guideline aimed at improving quality in the field of popular science tourism.
The standard was developed by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science together with the Russian State University of Tourism and Service.
According to the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, today the All-Russian Register of Popular Science Tourism Objects includes more than 1.1 thousand objects, including those located in universities and scientific institutes.
“As part of the Decade of Science and Technology, 76 routes have already been developed in 24 regions of our country. Children and adults have the opportunity to visit unique laboratories and get acquainted with the developments and achievements of our researchers. Of course, like any service, popular science routes, already at the design level, must be based on high standards, which are laid down in the relevant GOST,” said Valery Falkov.
The new document was approved by order of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart).
“The standard contains a set of terms and definitions in the field of popular science tourism, defines a list of popular science tourism services, as well as requirements for the design and provision of popular science tourism services,” explained the head of Rosstandart, Anton Shalaev.
