The construction of a new building of the Museum-Reserve of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad, the only comprehensive maritime museum in Russia, has been completed. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin. The building of the new modern complex “Planet Ocean” in the shape of a ball will become the hallmark of Kaliningrad.

“We have completed all construction and installation work on the new building of the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad. In general, its construction lasted from 2013 until we handed it over to the “Single Customer in the Construction Industry” in 2021, which has proven itself well on such difficult projects. In recent months, in order to complete all the work on time, we increased the number of workers at the site to 450. We have now received permission to put it into operation. The total area of the new building is more than 9 thousand square meters. m. The unique architecture of the building will make this museum one of the most unusual in Russia. I would like to believe that the museum will attract more and more young visitors who want to explore the World Ocean,” said Marat Khusnullin.

“Planet Ocean” consists of an exhibition part, which includes seven laboratories of various subjects and a library, a children’s educational center and a transition between them. The building was built in the form of an elongated composition consisting of three blocks, one of which has the shape of a glass ball. A canopy stylized as a wave is installed above the entrance area.

“Today, a fountain-waterfall has already been launched on the territory of the museum, which harmoniously combines with the architecture of the entire building. The building also contains modern planetarium equipment. Work is already actively underway to create a museum exhibition in several thematic laboratories – “Water and Air Laboratories” and “Space Laboratories”. Each of these spaces will offer visitors unique exhibits and educational materials,” noted Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Yuri Gordeev.

Currently, commissioning work on the life support systems of 29 aquariums with a total volume of more than 1.1 thousand cubic meters has been completed in the new building. m. This is a complex stage, including setting up all engineering solutions and subsequent water treatment. All these actions are aimed at creating an optimal habitat for future marine inhabitants. It is planned that the first inhabitants will be released into aquariums in the first quarter of 2025.

“A number of key works were completed at the facility: a bas-relief wall was installed in the “Life Laboratory”, a metal frame was installed for a 15-meter wave-shaped screen. The installation of the dome system of equipment for the planetarium and installations in the “Water and Air Laboratory” has also been completed,” noted Karen Oganesyan, General Director of the “Unified Customer” PPK.

The facility is being created as part of the comprehensive state program “Construction”, supervised by the Ministry of Construction of Russia. The new building is planned to open to visitors in 2025.
