Marat Khusnullin chaired a meeting of the Government Commission on Road Safety

Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin chaired a meeting of the Government Commission for Road Safety, where they discussed current road accident rates and measures to improve the situation in this direction. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Agency and other relevant departments, heads of constituent entities.

“In working to develop the country’s road framework, our priority is to improve road safety and save the lives of as many people as possible – drivers, passengers, pedestrians. Compared to last year, we see a small, but still decrease in mortality in road accidents (by 0.7%). At the same time, I would like to emphasize that it is becoming more difficult to maintain such dynamics from year to year, taking into account objective reasons: a large increase in motorization and traffic intensity, changes in the directions of freight and passenger flows. Thus, on a number of federal highways we see an increase in traffic intensity in certain sections from 10 to 100%; on average, over the past couple of years the figure has increased by 20–30%. Therefore, our priority tasks are not only to maintain the positive dynamics in reducing accidents and deaths on the roads, but also to systematically develop additional measures to improve the situation based on modern realities,” said Marat Khusnullin.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the President has set the task of reducing mortality from road accidents by one and a half times by 2030 and by half by 2036. The meeting participants also discussed the preparation of a draft strategy for improving road safety in Russia for this period, which will be linked to the new national project “Infrastructure for Life.” As part of it, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs formed the federal project “Road Safety”.

At the meeting, Marat Khusnullin instructed the governors to take personal control of the development and implementation of action plans to reduce accidents and mortality as a result of road accidents, as well as to assess the dynamics of the growth of motorization in the regions. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that special attention should be paid to the safety of pedestrians and the prevention of child road traffic injuries.
