Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, as part of a working trip to the Tyumen region, took part in the grand opening of the Sibur Technology Pilot Center.
The event took place in Tobolsk. The opening was also attended by the Governor of the Tyumen region Alexander Moor and member of the board and managing director for development and innovation of Sibur Daria Borisova.
Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that ZapSibNeftekhim is one of the largest petrochemical complexes in the world.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the company’s management and employees for the contribution they make to the country’s economy, the development of the region, the achievement of technological sovereignty and leadership, which President Vladimir Putin spoke about at the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects.
“It is important not only that the company invests about 6–7 billion rubles every year in research and development, but also that it does it effectively. The new pilot center makes it possible to speed up the introduction of innovations into production by 10 times. We greatly value the partnership between Sibur and our universities and scientific organizations. Sibur already has 10 research centers that develop the science and technology needed by our country. Such a successful experience deserves to be scaled up. We in the Government, as part of the implementation of the new national project “New Materials and Chemistry,” which President Vladimir Putin entrusted to us, will definitely use the effective mechanisms developed by Sibur,” the Deputy Chairman of the Government emphasized.
Dmitry Chernyshenko added that with such mechanisms, developments obtained at universities or jointly with them are successfully developed in pilot centers and introduced into production and industry as quickly as possible. This allows us to ensure that the tasks facing the industry are met. Sibur, of course, as the industry’s flagship, sets an example to follow.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov noted that this year Sibur became an official partner of the Decade of Science and Technology announced by President Vladimir Putin.
“The company makes a great contribution to the development of science, technology and the higher education system, building partnerships with leading academic institutes and universities. It is very important that such interaction is established and serious results emerge,” the Minister said.
“The creation of an innovative research center in Tobolsk on the basis of one of the most modern Sibur enterprises, ZapSibNeftekhim, is the company’s contribution to strengthening the technological independence of our country. It is symbolic that it is in the homeland of the great scientist, chemist Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev that advanced scientific developments will appear that will make it possible to solve complex technological and engineering problems facing modern petrochemicals. We value the partnership that we have developed with Sibur. We are ready to continue to support the holding in the implementation of joint projects,” noted Alexander Moor.
The Technology Pilot Center is the first research center in Russia and has no analogues in the world, the launch of which will speed up the development of our own catalysts and new brands of base polymers by up to 10 times.
Such basic polymers – polyethylene and polypropylene – are the most popular and are widely used in construction, medicine, the transport industry, the food industry, the agro-industrial complex and the oil and gas industry. The unique infrastructure of the piloting center combines all 12 technologies for producing polypropylene and polyethylene presented in the Russian Federation.
The center’s facilities will test Russian catalyst developments, including chromium, titanium-magnesium and metallocene catalysts, which are being carried out by Sibur scientists and in partnership with leading scientific organizations.
By combining catalysts and technologies, the center will create ready-made technological and engineering solutions. Already in 2025, the pilot center plans to test more than 10 new catalysts and technologies.
“The piloting center will become an important link in the chain of creating a full cycle of domestic developments in the field of base polymers. Its launch accelerates the introduction of new products and catalysts, minimizing production risks. Together with future facilities, such as the Sibur Innovation Research Center in Kazan and the catalyst production factory, we are confidently moving towards the goal of providing the entire chain of domestic technologies until 2030. This will ensure the country’s technological independence in the field of polymers, and will also open up new opportunities for achieving leadership through the creation of innovations in synthetic materials,” said Daria Borisova, member of the board and managing director for development and innovation at Sibur.
In addition, as part of the working trip, Dmitry Chernyshenko and Valery Falkov inspected the technological facilities of ZapSibNeftekhim – one of the largest petrochemical complexes in Russia – and the Siburintech Center for the Development of Engineering and Technical Expertise, where they also got acquainted with the work of the VR training class and computer -training complex, class of rolling bearings with demonstration of defect detection using strobe light
Also in Tobolsk, Dmitry Chernyshenko examined the Sophia-Assumption Cathedral, one of the oldest Siberian churches, located in the Tobolsk Kremlin – the only stone kremlin beyond the Urals. The Deputy Prime Minister got acquainted with the history of its construction, which began after a fire in 1677 on the site of the more ancient Church of Hagia Sophia, and appreciated the partially preserved paintings of the 17th–18th centuries. In the cathedral, Dmitry Chernyshenko talked with Metropolitan Dimitry of Tobolsk and Tyumen.
