Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak visited Niger. Alexander Novak’s trip was the first visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia to the country. The Russian delegation also included representatives of business circles.
In the capital of Niger, Niamey, Alexander Novak met with the Prime Minister of the Transitional Period of the Republic of Niger, Ali Mahaman Lamin Zein, and also held negotiations with the Head of the Republic of Niger, Chairman of the National Council for the Defense of the Homeland, Abdurahmane Chiani.
It was noted that the countries consider each other as important partners.
During the meetings, the possibilities of developing practical cooperation in the field of energy, agriculture, infrastructure projects, and in matters of geological exploration and development of mineral reserves were discussed. The prospects for increasing cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, including in the fields of education, culture and sports, were also touched upon.
“The second Russia-Africa summit, which took place in St. Petersburg last summer with the participation of the President of Russia and leaders of African states, gave new impetus to our country’s cooperation with African partners. Today, joint projects of regional importance are being actively developed, aimed at improving the quality of life of people, including access to electricity and the development of transport infrastructure,” noted Alexander Novak.
