Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak chaired a meeting of the Government Commission on the development of the electric power industry with the participation of the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Antimonopoly Service, the State Duma, and energy companies.

The parties reviewed the current state of the Siberian energy system and discussed the necessary steps to cover the region’s growing demand for electricity by 2030. To meet future demand, it is planned to build a DC energy bridge with a capacity of up to 1.5 thousand MW, as well as create new generating capacities of more than 1 thousand MW through a competitive selection procedure.

“The economy and digital technologies will continue to develop, and the need for energy will only increase. Therefore, we need to think for the future and create the necessary infrastructure today,” said Alexander Novak.

During the meeting, the parties discussed promising solutions for the construction of new energy facilities in the south of Russia, as well as in Moscow and the Moscow region, including a series of thermal power plants that should meet the growing needs of these entities for electricity. In total, it is planned to build 15 generating units with a total capacity of 3.2 thousand MW.

Technical requirements for planned thermal power plants and issues of modernizing existing facilities and power networks using new technological solutions to increase electricity generation were considered.
