The event was also attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Aide to the President of Russia Andrei Fursenko, Advisor to the President Anton Kobyakov, President of the federal state budgetary institution “National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”” Mikhail Kovalchuk, head of the educational foundation “Talent and Success” Elena Shmeleva, General Director of ANO “National Priorities” Sofia Malyavina and others.
During the meeting, the results of the next year of the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by the President, were assessed and tasks for the coming period were outlined.
The Congress of Young Scientists brought together representatives of 62 countries and 500 universities, including 100 foreign ones. According to VTsIOM, 64% of parents want their children to study science, 92% of students plan to build a scientific career, and 78% of Russians are proud of scientists.
Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the current year is marked by the most important dates – the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg State University, as well as the 300th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher Immanuel Kant.
The Deputy Prime Minister summed up the year, noting a significant increase in interest in science. He mentioned the success of the “Russia” exhibition at VDNKh, where the interactive exhibition “Decade of Science and Technology” was opened, attracting more than 140 thousand visitors.
“The decade united the country. The total number of events held in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in 2024 exceeded 12 thousand. Scientific playgrounds and new tourist routes were opened. Now you can go on a trip along 76 popular science routes in 24 regions of Russia. Thanks to the events held, we have made a significant step in popularizing scientific and innovative activities among residents of our country of all ages. The share of students planning to build a scientific career in Russia has grown to 92%,” emphasized Dmitry Chernyshenko.
More than half of the surveyed business representatives believe that the quality of running a technology business is at an average and high level. It is important that representatives of the real sector of the economy are actively involved in the events of the Decade and develop their own thematic initiatives.
Thus, this year the Ministry of Education and Science and the operator of the Decade entered into thematic agreements with the UEC, the Skolkovo Foundation, the Uralchem company and the Roscosmos state corporation. This will help attract domestic research teams to create competitive, world-class, high-tech developments.
Today, the main task is the country’s independence and its leadership in the technological field. The formation of national projects for technological leadership is being completed, and all of them must be provided with scientific personnel. It is necessary to continue effective work to attract researchers to science and increase the availability of information about the main achievements and prospects of Russian science.
“Of course, attracting young people to science is important, but we cannot stop at this task. We need to take care now that, when entering the profession, our young people do not become disillusioned, but remain in science and work with enthusiasm. A key factor that influences job satisfaction is the opportunity to participate in solving meaningful, world-class problems. It is also necessary to create modern jobs for scientists, equipped with modern laboratory facilities, without which it is impossible to achieve high results,” said Academician Gennady Krasnikov, co-chairman of the coordinating committee of the Decade of Science and Technology, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He suggested thinking about measures to modernize scientific institutes so that they are not inferior in equipment and appearance to university campuses.
“The decade of science and technology today is a response to the need for a fundamentally new quality of interaction between man, nature and technology. Over the years, the Decade’s platforms have brought together youth, public organizations, business and scientists. This year alone, the number of events at the federal and regional level amounted to more than 12 thousand,” said the head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov.
