Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Affairs of Moroccans Living Abroad of the Kingdom of Morocco Nasser Bourita held the eighth meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Russian-Moroccan Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

“Morocco has traditionally been one of Russia’s most important partners in Africa. Despite the current geopolitical situation, the dialogue between our countries continues to strengthen and develop within the framework of the Statement on Deep Strategic Partnership adopted in 2016. During the first half of this year, trade turnover between our countries increased by almost 30% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, we have significant potential for further strengthening economic cooperation,” said Dmitry Patrushev.

The chairman of the Russian part of the commission noted that Morocco traditionally occupies one of the leading places in terms of trade turnover among Russia’s partners in Africa. For example, the volume of trade in products between the two countries is growing steadily. Russia is interested in increasing supplies in the areas of industry, agriculture, transport, energy, and subsoil use.

The parties discussed practical steps to expand cooperation in the energy sector, one of the key areas of Russian-Moroccan cooperation. They touched upon issues not only of the development of appropriate infrastructure, but also the use of renewable energy sources.

At the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, they noted the prospects for interaction in the transport sector, namely in the area of ​​organizing logistics services between the two countries.

In addition, the successful development of direct partnerships between Russian and Moroccan universities was noted. In the 2024/25 academic year, over 4 thousand Moroccan citizens studied at Russian universities. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Russia is also ready to expand cooperation in the field of general, secondary vocational and additional education.

Following the event, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Affairs of Moroccans Living Abroad of the Kingdom of Morocco signed the final protocol of the eighth meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Russian-Moroccan Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

“We hope that the results of today’s meeting will give additional impetus to the implementation of joint projects and the further development of trade and economic cooperation between our countries,” noted Dmitry Patrushev.

The intergovernmental mixed Russian-Moroccan Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation has been functioning since 2003. The Chairman of the Russian part of the intergovernmental commission is Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev. The Moroccan part of the commission is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad of the Kingdom of Morocco, Nasser Bourita (since 2017). The previous meeting took place in Rabat in October 2018.
