On the sidelines of the international forum “Russian Energy Week”, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak held a working meeting with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar.
The parties noted fruitful interaction in key areas: trade and economics, financial and banking, information and communication technologies, and energy. Over five years, trade turnover between the countries increased 2.3 times. At the same time, a significant part of settlements under foreign trade contracts is carried out in national currencies.
Cooperation in the fuel and energy sector occupies a special place in relations between the two countries.
Russia remains the largest supplier of natural gas to Turkey and traditionally reliably fulfills its contractual obligations.
The implementation of Turkey’s flagship nuclear energy project, the Akkuyu NPP, continues. The technical launch of the first unit of the nuclear power plant is scheduled for 2026.
“I am confident that cooperation between Russia and Turkey in the energy sector will continue to remain an important driver of stability and prosperity for our countries and the entire region,” emphasized Alexander Novak.
