Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak made a working visit to Iraq. In Baghdad, he held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. The meeting was also attended by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev.

The conditions for the production and supply of crude oil to the world market, including within the framework of the OPEC+ deal, were discussed. The parties emphasized the importance of maintaining stability, balance and fair pricing, noting the leading role of the OPEC+ group in achieving these goals.

Alexander Novak confirmed Russia’s intention to build mutually beneficial relations with Iraq based on common interests. In 2024, the countries celebrate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Alexander Novak and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani discussed issues of energy cooperation, peaceful nuclear energy, investment, interaction in the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools, development of cooperation in industry, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and transport.
