During a working trip to the Solovetsky Islands of the Arkhangelsk Region, Deputy Chairman of the Government Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting of the Organizational Committee for the preparation and celebration of the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the Solovetsky archipelago, and also evaluated the course of restoration and reconstruction of the archipelago infrastructure.
Events on the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on Solovki will begin in 2027. Active preparation is already underway.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that for 6 centuries the Solovetsky monastery has been a symbol of the Orthodox faith, the stamina and courage of the Russian people, one of the largest spiritual and cultural centers of Russia. Many great and tragic historical events are associated with it. The monastery today is one of the most famous and revered in Russia. The composition of its ensemble includes more than 200 objects of cultural heritage of federal significance.
“In 2029, our country will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the Solovetsky archipelago. President Vladimir Putin supported the government’s proposal to celebrate this significant memorable date. Today we discussed plans for the main and additional events. They appreciated the progress of the construction and reconstruction of facilities, which are included in the Plan Grandus approved by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. Their willingness must be ensured by 2029, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister also instructed to work out excursion programs, organize the involvement of volunteers and an information campaign for anniversary events.
As part of the working trip, Dmitry Chernyshenko got acquainted with the progress in the reconstruction of social facilities and the modernization of infrastructure, carried out in connection with the preparation for the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement in Solovki in 2029.
Particular attention was paid to the overhaul of the airport building, where the runway was already updated, and the restoration of the Transfiguration Monastery, including the reconstruction of the Church of the Monk Onufry the Great. The Deputy Prime Minister also examined the district hospital under construction, whose readiness is 60%.
In addition, he visited the construction facilities of a technological pier, passenger pier Tamarin, Preobrazhenskaya Hotels.
Another object that Dmitry Chernyshenko visited was the Solovetskaya secondary school. Today, 98 students are studying in the institution from 1st to 11th grades. An additional education is also actively developing here: a sports club has been created at the school, the Center for Education of Natural Scientific and Technological Directions is opened, the media center and the Center for Children’s Initiatives are operating.
The Deputy Prime Minister talked with the guys, asked them about life on the islands, dreams and plans, and also handed them to the equipment necessary for the educational process, a set for equipping a school media center, books to the library and gifts from the “first movement”.
He discussed with the team of the school, representatives of the regional government and the Fund for the preservation and development of the Solovetsky archipelago plans for repair work in an educational institution.
Dmitry Chernyshenko also left his wishes in the memorable book of the school and gave instructions regarding the sports equipment of the school.

According to him, the plan includes more than 100 events in several sections. An important event will be the All-Russian exhibition “Sanctuary of the Solovetsky Archipelago”, the opening of which is scheduled in 2028 in St. Petersburg and in 2029 in Moscow. Jubilee events will be accompanied by a solemn concert in the Kremlin Palace and the All -Russian Children’s Festival of Classical Music “Solovetsky Symphony” in Arkhangelsk.
The head of the region, Alexander Tsybulsky, noted that the action plan provides for many events, including exhibitions, festivals, scientific and educational projects, film screenings. A strategy for the development of pilgrimage and tourism in the Solovetsky archipelago, taking into account the anthropogenic load, is being developed. It takes into account the tourist flow, the state of providing infrastructure, the strategic development of Solovki until 2035.
Many events will be held not only in Solovkov and the Arkhangelsk region, but throughout Russia. Among the key events are the organization in 2027 of the mobile photo exhibition “The Holy Island in the White Sea”, the All -Russian contest of the children’s drawing “Solovki”, the “Spiritual Frontiers” player for artists, the new works of which will be able to serve future generations as a source of inspiration and pride. Also in 2027, the illustrated catalog “The Spiritual Saints Solovkov” will be prepared, which will include objects of the monastery stored in different museums of the country. In addition, work is underway to create a documentary and art series about Solovki.
“An important element of preparation for the anniversary will be the promotion of the tourist route“ The Hidden North: From Arkhangelsk to Solovkov, ”which was recognized as national and has already begun to act. It covers the main attractions of Arkhangelsk and Solovetsky Islands, ”said Alexander Tsybulsky.
In 2028, it was planned to hold the All-Russian festival of Orthodox choirs, as well as the cultural and educational forum “History of the Solovetsky Monastery”, which will be held in Arkhangelsk.
One of the largest events that are proposed to implement is restoration with adaptation for the modern use of the Arkhangelsk courtyard of the Solovetsky Monastery.
