Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev spoke at the National Center “Russia” at the presentation of the Arctic Dossier, the National Report of Russia in the framework of the UN of Ecosystems Restoration. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the country consistently adheres to the goals of the Sustainable Development of the UN and advocates strengthening the dialogue in the field of rational nature management.
“Russia is the largest Arctic power. Therefore, its environmental recovery is one of the priorities for us. The Arctic is also a strategic space for the development and implementation of projects of the future, including the interstate level. This is due to both significant logistics potential and unique natural wealth. On the territory of the Arctic zone for the protection of ecosystems, we created specially protected natural territories of the federal level of the total area of about 40 million hectares, which is the largest contribution among the Arctic states. This approach helps to maintain the biodiversity of the Arctic, which has about 20 thousand types of living organisms. Including we are talking about restoring the population of rare and threatened the disappearance of the objects of the animal and plant world, ”said Dmitry Patrushev.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that on behalf of the President of Russia, a Fund for supporting environmental and environmental projects was created. In 2025, 15% of all projects received grants was aimed at preserving and studying the natural environment in the Arctic zone, and the theme of the Arctic was allocated in a separate direction of the competition.
The deputy chairman of the government also emphasized the large role of Russian business. Companies implement unique projects to preserve the biodiversity of the region, including an international scale.
Dmitry Patrushev noted that the further effective development of this region should be inextricably linked with the care of the environment. In the Arctic zone, work is actively underway to eliminate objects of accumulated environmental harm – clearing the territories occupied by landlords and the restoration of violated lands. In 2024 alone, reclamation affected more than 6 thousand hectares of land-this is primarily the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Within the framework of the national project “Environmental well -being” in this region, measures are planned to form a modern waste management system, preserve forests, restore water bodies and reduce dangerous emissions into the atmosphere. In total, it is supposed to allocate 12 billion rubles for these targets.
To develop state monitoring of the environment of the environment in the Arctic zone, the observation network of Roshydromet is modernized. In addition, the scientific and expedition fleet is being used systematically.
In conclusion, Dmitry Patrushev emphasized that Russia will continue to move along the path of nature -saving in all its territories, including in the Arctic.
