News – Government of Russia

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov talked about key indicators of domestic tourism: in the first six months of 2025, tourists made 41.4 million trips to Russia.

“From January to June, tourists made 41.4 million trips to Russia – this is almost 7% more than in the same period last year. The development of domestic tourism is facilitated by the measures of the national project “Tourism and hospitality“. The regions develop infrastructure and create new tourist products. This helps to achieve the goal set by President Vladimir Putin: by 2030 to ensure the share of tourism in the country’s GDP – 5% and 140 million tourist trips, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that thanks to the government for the fifth year, a positive dynamics have been preserved.

After the decrease, which was caused by the pandemia of coronavirus, the number of tourist trips is growing steadily: 2021 – 66.5 million (40% more than in 2020), 2022 – 73.1 million (almost 10% more than in 2021), 2023 – 83.6 million (by 14% more), 2024 – 90 million (almost by almost to 8% more than in 2023).

The past, 2024 became a record for the number of tourist trips to Russia – then their number increased by 37% compared to 2021.

Traditionally, the leaders in the number of tourist trips were Moscow (6 million), Krasnodar Territory (4.4 million) and St. Petersburg (3.3 million). The TOP also included the Moscow Region (2.7 million), the Republic of Tatarstan (1.4 million), the Republic of Crimea (1.1 million) and the Sverdlovsk region (1 million).

At the same time, regions that actively develop tourist infrastructure and promote their unique proposals demonstrated the greatest increase. The Republic of Kalmykia (+81.7%) became the absolute leader in growth rates, the Republic of Adygea (+79.1%) and the Karachay-Cherkess Republic (+75.6%) follow it. Also among regions with high indicators are Tver region (+58.8%), the Jewish autonomous region (+48%) and the Ulyanovsk region (+44.8%).

“It is especially pleased that in addition to traditional tourist centers, popularity and less promoted areas are growing. This suggests that our efforts to diversify the tourist market give a result. For example, the Siberian Federal District showed an increase of 14.5%, north-west-by 9%, and the Far Eastern-by 7.3%. This confirms that tourists are increasingly discovering new routes for themselves, ”Maxim Reshetnikov commented.

Forecasts for 2025 remain optimistic: if the dynamics remains, the number of tourist trips around the country can again become a record. The authorities will continue to maintain the development of infrastructure and the promotion of regions to make traveling around Russia even more comfortable and interesting.
