The Deputy Chairman of the Government, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President to the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev, invited the Deputy Chairman of the State Council of China Zhang Gotsin and Chinese colleagues to take part in September the Kuril Island of Shumshi and take part in the festive events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory over Militarian Japanese.
“On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, we create a memorial complex on the island of Shumshi dedicated to the Kuril landing operation. Shumshu is one of the islands of the Kuril ridge. On this island, in fact, the Second World War ended. The Kwantun Army was defeated. Our fighters defeated the superior enemy forces, demonstrated mass heroism, landed into the water with full equipment and went on the attack on tanks for a long time to heights, where firing points were located. On behalf of the Deputy Chairman of the Government, Presidential Presidential Representative to the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev, in mid-May, the working group visited the Kuril Island of Shumshu in order to control the execution of Russian presidential instructions on the 80th anniversary of the victory over Militarian Japan and the end of the Second World War. The working group included representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Envoy of the Far East, the Ministry of Eastern of the Russia, the Ministry of Culture of Russia. The delegation appreciated the readiness of the sites for organizing a summer expedition, as well as the creation of an open -air memorial.
The creation of a military-historical memorial complex at the first stage is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and Victory over Militarian Japan. The complex dedicated to the Kuril landing operation is created on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The work is under the control of the Deputy Prime Minister-the envoy of Yuri Trutnev. The working group for the execution of the order of the head of state was headed by the Governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko and the head of the Presidential Directorate for Public Projects Sergey Novikov.
“The team of the Center for Modern History, together with the Russian Military Historical Society, is engaged in preparation for work that will be ahead of this summer, in the restoration and preservation of military equipment present on Shumsh. We consider it fundamentally important to preserve tanks in the form in which they are now. It is about maintaining the existing position of the tanks. We will be as careful as possible to how they look now. In addition, we have engineering tasks that relate to topographic work, aerial photography of the island, historical study of materials. By August, we plan to make an interactive map of the island on the basis of those materials that will be found both in archives and in historical sources and received here as a result of field work, ”said Ivan Anokhin, director of the Modern History Center.
Events on Shumsha will be held during the summer of 2025 and will be dedicated to the Kuril landing operation. A search expedition is planned, the solemn-grass grave ceremony of the remains of Soviet soldiers found during search work, the All-Russian physical education event “Extreme Cross-TRAITLOL“ Height 171 ”(swimming, cycling and running), tourist trips for the youth movement“ More than a trip ”, the reconstruction of“ The Storm of the Island of Shumsha ”, as well as Concert program, including in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Key events on the opening of the memorial complex and the mourning ceremony of the burial of the remains of the fighters will be held on August 18. Then a military-historical reconstruction will be held. About 150 people out of two dozen regions of Russia and friendly countries will take part in it.
“The Russian Military Historical Society received a task from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation as part of the presidential decree on the creation of a memorial complex here to organize all the events regarding the Ministry of Culture in 2025, and form the concept of development of the island until 2030. It is necessary to solve several strategic things related to those objects that we will restore this year. The Nevsky Batalist company makes the entrance area, which will symbolize directly the Kuril landing operation. We are now selecting a place where this design could be installed. Our task includes the improvement of all cultural heritage objects that are located today on the territory of the island. This is the grave, the mass grave, the grave of the two heroes of the Soviet Union, this is another of our main tasks. Work with military equipment that has remained here from the time of the Great Patriotic War.
During the working trip, an inspection of places of creating a military-historical memorial complex dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the warriors of the Kuril landing operation, as well as the placement of thematic installation and trophy tanks in the open air. The placement of the modular structure was discussed to demonstrate the artifacts found during the search work and the burial of the remains of the soldiers of the Red Army and the fleet found during the search work. The readiness of the sites for the organization of summer camps for participants in the search expedition, museum workers, employees of the Ministry of Emergencies, doctors, as well as youth tourist groups was evaluated. The issues of creating a traffic network between the objects of the island and cultural and cognitive routes were considered.
The transport scheme for the delivery of goods and equipment to Shumshu was developed by the government of the Sakhalin Region together with the Government of the Kamchatka Territory and the Russian Ministry of Defense. It provides for the delivery of property to North-Kurilsk by sea courts. For the further transportation of goods to Shumsha, where there are no hydraulic structures, they use toal barges. In total, 30 units of equipment have been taken to the island since the end of March.
