Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Alexander Novak, on the eve of the 18th meeting of the constant Russian-Iranian commission on trade and economic cooperation, held a working meeting with the Minister of Oil Iran Mochsen Paknezhad.

The parties discussed the implementation of key infrastructure projects in the field of energy, which are under special control with the presidents of Russia and Iran.

“Iran remains a reliable strategic partner of Russia. The relations of our countries are progressively strengthened and expanded in all key areas of cooperation. Iran is the only partner of Russia outside the CIS countries, which has a high status at once in three international organizations. The country is a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and also has the status of an observer under the Eurasian Economic Union. In January of this year, a significant historical event took place in the relations of Russia and Iran. The presidents of our countries signed a new basic interstate agreement, which first officially consolidated the strategic nature of the Russian-Iranian partnership. The contract contains key principles for the further development of Russian-Iranian ties, including in the field of fuel and energy systems, ”said Alexander Novak.

During the negotiations, successful interaction of countries was also noted as part of the OPEC+ transaction and on the platform of the forum of gas exporters.

“We are sure that Russia, in the framework of interaction in OPEC+ format, will continue to play a stabilizing role to achieve balance in world energy markets,” Mokhsen Paknezhad emphasized.

Alexander Novak noted that Russia is ready to assist the expansion of trade and economic ties between the EAEU and Iran.

The parties also expressed their readiness to continue working on joint projects for creating new land gas corridors from Russia to Iran.
