In the capital of Cuba Havana, the 22nd meeting of the intergovernmental Russian-Cuban commission on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation was held. The co-chairs were the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Kabrisas.
The parties discussed the key areas of bilateral interaction, including in the field of energy, industry, tourism, agriculture, technology, education, culture and sports, as well as issues of implementing promising investment projects. According to the results of the meeting, 13 documents were signed, including the final act and cooperation agreement.
Dmitry Chernyshenko thanked Ricardo Cabrisas for the warm welcome of the Russian delegation in Havana and emphasized that Russia was waiting for the visit of the President of Cuba Miguel Dias-Kanel to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in May 2025. Earlier, the president of the republic accepted an invitation sent on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“With great satisfaction, I want to note the regularity of meetings of the intergovernmental commission. This allows us to work effectively on the promotion of key issues of the bilateral agenda. We highly value confidential and constructive political dialogue at all levels, including the highest. They intend to continue to strengthen Russian-Kubin relations in a wide range of areas: in the field of industrial cooperation, trade and humanitarian cooperation, the exchange of experience and the transfer of Russian technological developments, joint research, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about Cuba’s support, including the emergency program to minimize the consequences of the energy criticism that occurred on the island at the end of last year.
In addition, according to Dmitry Chernyshenko, an integral part of bilateral cooperation is the educational field. Last year, over 60 agreements were concluded between Russian and Cuban universities. From 2023 to the present, eight open education centers were earned on the island to study the Russian language. In 2024, Russian universities opened two geological classes at Cuban universities, as well as the Center for Targeted Training of Specialists in the field of energy and electronics. As part of the current visit of the Russian delegation, the work of the branch of the Southern Federal University in Havana will be launched.
It is planned to continue work to expand the portfolio of bilateral investment initiatives, the total number of which currently exceeds 100. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the resumption of Russian cars to Cuba. In 2024, over 180 units of engineering products were exported to the island.
In the framework of agro -industrial cooperation, the second year in a row, a project for the processing of Russian wheat at the Cuban Mukomol Plant is being implemented. The possibility of participating in Russian business in the modernization of the Sugar industry of Cuba is considered.
The development of the tourism industry continues. In 2024, the Russian tourist flow for Cuba was preserved at the record level of 2023 and amounted to 160 thousand people. At the same time, the number of Cuban citizens who visited Russia last year increased by more than 50%.
“To solve the tasks today, it is extremely important to have the support of reliable partners and allies, such as the Russian Federation. The current meeting of the Inter -Correction Commission is a suitable site for studying the proposals that lie on the negotiating table. I am sure that according to the results of the meetings, specific results will appear that will help strengthen the relations of our countries, ”said Ricardo Cabrisas.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Council, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Culture and other departments also took part in the Russian side.
