Mode: Tamar Moore Sela in a special conversation with writer Eli Amir on Independence Day

The 77th Independence Day for the State of Israel, this year, the shadow of political storms, a deep social fracture and a prolonged war, which leaves its mark on every home in Israel. It is precisely these days, the Declaration of Independence can return to be a moral, cultural and Zionist compass – a document that is not only a historical memory, but a live commitment: liberty, justice, peace, for equality, religious freedom, conscience and language – for every citizen and citizen of the country.

The built -in contradiction between being a Jewish state and being democracy – is not a spoilage or just a given, but a fascinating challenge, and perhaps even the secret of our existence. But can we hold a deep, living, renewable Jewish identity – without defining the other, without imposing one interpretation?
