The PKK announced today, Saturday, the ceasefire with Türkiye two days after its founder Abdullah Ocalan’s supporters invited its supporters to drop weapons and dissolve the party.
The party said that it would comply with the invitation of its imprisoned leader to achieve peace and announce the ceasefire starting from today, noting that he hoped that Ankara will release Ocalan so that he could lead the disarmament process.
The banned party in Türkiye added – in a statement – that there is a need to develop political and democratic conditions for the success of the process.
The party’s external relations official in the Qandil region inside the Iraqi territory, Hafal Sarkout, told the island that the party is Egypt, on its leader Abdullah Ocalan among its ranks to lead the peace process, including the party’s fighters ’fighters, to dissolve the party, and to engage in a real political process with Türkiye, as he described it.
On Thursday, the imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan urged his party to abandon arms and ban his activity, in the context of efforts to achieve peace with Türkiye and end a 4 -year conflict and left tens of thousands of dead.
“Hold your meeting and make a decision, all groups should abandon their weapons, and that the Kurdistan Workers Party will replace itself.”
According to Turkish data, the Labor Party has killed about 40,000 people (between civilians and military personnel) during its separatist activities that have been going on since the 1980s.
While the peace efforts were frozen for nearly a decade, the camp of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched an initiative put forward by his main national ally, Dort Bhatchley last October at Ocalan, who is sentenced to life imprisonment. Hachli then called on Ocalan to reject violence and dissolve his party for the early release of it.
Ocalan launched two previous invitations to the armistice, at the beginning of this century and then in 2013, but they were unsuccessful, giving way to renewed fighting.
