Iran rejects negotiations with America before stopping Israeli attacks news

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji told his European counterparts on Friday that Iran will not enter into direct negotiations with the United States as long as Israel continues its military campaign, after the Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, expected a “long” war with Tehran.

After his meeting, yesterday, Friday – in Geneva, his French, British, and German counterparts, and the European Union’s foreign policy official, Kaya Callas, said that Iran is ready to restrict its uranium enrichment in a similar nuclear agreement for the year 2015, from which the United States withdrew in 2018, but he made it clear that Iran would not agree to the American demand to stop fertilization.

Araqji also assured the Iranian media after the meeting that Tehran is still committed to the diplomatic path and is ready to meet again with European foreign ministers, stressing that Iran will not negotiate its defense capabilities.

Axius quoted European diplomats directly familiar with the discussions that the meeting between Iran and Western powers, which lasted for two hours, did not result in any diplomatic breakthrough, as none of the parties made a new proposal. The meeting was described as a preliminary communication, and the two parties agreed to the meeting again next week, according to European diplomats.

European diplomats said that the Iranians seemed more open than before to discuss not only restrictions on their nuclear program, but also a set of non -nuclear issues, including the Iranian missile program, the network of its regional agents, Russia’s military aid, and European detainees in Iran.

European foreign ministers urged Araqji to directly engage with the Trump administration and suggested that American actors involve in the upcoming talks, but Araqji refused, according to diplomats.

Although the Iranian Foreign Minister has maintained direct contacts with Stephen Witkev, the envoy of US President Donald Trump since the beginning of the war, he repeated in Geneva that Iran would not negotiate the United States as long as the Israeli strikes are continuing.

France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot (R), flanked by Britain's Foreign Secretary David Lammy (L) and EU High Representative and Vice-President for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas (C), makes a statement following their meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister on Tehran's nuclear programme, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva, on June 20, 2025, aside of a meeting of European Foreign Ministers, as European countries call for de-escalation of tensions after Israeli bombings aimed at breaking Iranian nuclear program.
European diplomats have warned that time is running out to reach a diplomatic solution (French)

European position

In a joint statement after the meeting, the ministers of the European Triple Group and the foreign policy official in the European Union repeated their long -term concern about the expansion of the Iranian nuclear program.

European diplomats said that during the meeting they explained that the time was running out to reach a diplomatic solution.

“The positive result today is that we are leaving the hall with the impression that the Iranian side is ready to continue to discuss all important issues,” said German Foreign Minister Johan Vadevol.

“We believe that there is no final solution to the military means of the Iranian nuclear issue. Military operations may delay them, but they cannot eliminate them,” said French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrow.

In a related context, the British Foreign Minister said that the Iranians have an opportunity to reach a diplomatic solution and they must take the necessary steps, warning that Washington’s intervention is planning and the Iranians taking it seriously, according to the Financial Times newspaper, quoting a British official.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Germany, France and Britain would make a “comprehensive negotiating show” for Iran, including nuclear issues, ballistic missile activities, and the financing of armed factions in the region.

Araqji is scheduled to travel to Istanbul on Saturday to attend the Islamic Cooperation Organization meeting, and Moscow is expected to visit Monday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discuss the war, according to diplomats.

The next meeting with European foreign ministers is likely to be held after these two stations, which may narrow the “window of the two weeks” that Trump referred to.

An Iraqi meeting was held in Geneva with senior European Union diplomats, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, and this was the first direct meeting between Iran and Western powers since Israel launched its attack on Iran a week ago.

This came a day after Trump announced that he would take a decision “during the next two weeks” about whether it would strike the Iranian nuclear program, which kept the door open to a diplomatic solution.
The European Union, Britain, France and Germany spoke with the Trump administration to coordinate before the meeting, but the American president was conservative on the European diplomatic efforts, and told reporters:
“Iran does not want to talk to Europe. They want to speak to us. Europe will not be able to help in this.”

For its part, CBS quoted diplomats that Turkey, Oman and European countries offered to host direct or indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, noting that diplomacy will have a final opportunity next week to end the Israeli -Iranian conflict.

The network also quoted Western diplomats that there are secret talks on the possibility of securing nuclear sites and materials in Iran, and the possible repercussions are discussing the allies when hitting nuclear facilities in Iran. It also addresses secret talks who will lead Iran later.

CBS quoted a diplomat that the Israeli attack might worry the Supreme Leader in Iran, Ali Khamenei, regarding communication for his concerns about using signs to target him.

While the Geneva meeting was held, the Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, said in a photo message in which the Israelis addressed: “We launched the most complex campaign in our history, we have to be ready for a long campaign. Although there is great progress, we are waiting for difficult days. We are preparing for many possibilities.”

Zamir stressed that the Israeli army prepared for the process of “the rising lion” “for years”, adding, “In recent months, we have speeded the parallel of fighting on several fronts while maintaining the largest amount of secrecy,” explaining that the “mixing” of nuclear threats and Iranian missiles “forced us to direct a pre -emptive blow.”

Zamir pointed out that, before the Israeli attack, Iran had “about 2,500 surface-to-surface missiles and was producing it at a regular pace” that allows it to reach stock “approximately 8,000 missiles” after two years.

Work ended with a previous agreement to organize the Iranian nuclear program, which was concluded in 2015 between Tehran and the major powers, in 2018 after the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from it and the re -imposition of US sanctions on Iran during Donald Trump’s first presidential state.

In response, Iran abandoned some of its obligations, which accelerated uranium enrichment.

Iran has fertilized uranium to a high level of 60%, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. To make an atomic bomb, the fertilization level must be raised to 90%. The 2015 agreement set the fertilization limit at 3.67%.

Israel maintains mystery to having nuclear weapons, but it has 90 nuclear heads, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
