India announced – today, Saturday, that it will temporarily suspend the sending of postal parcels to the United States due to the disturbance resulting from the customs duties imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump, to follow the example of European mail companies.
The Indian step, which includes limited exceptions, comes less than a week before the US administration begins its decision to cancel the low -value postal parcel exemption from customs duties.
The Indian Ministry of Communication stated that the executive order issued last month is required to transport companies or other “qualified parties” approved by the American authorities, to collect fees.
But she indicated that “many of the basic procedures related to the selection of qualified parties and the procedures for collecting and transferring fees remain unlimited.”
According to that, “transportation companies told the United States that they are unable to receive postal parcels after August 25, 2025, explaining this with the lack of operational and technical readiness.”
As a result, the Indian Post Department will be suspended from Monday receiving “all types of postal purposes” prepared for the sending to the United States, except for messages, documents and gifts that do not exceed $ 100.
In return, “the acceptance of the excluded groups and their transfer to the United States will continue, pending more clarifications from the Customs, Borders and Postal Services Department in the United States.”
The Indian advertisement comes the day after similar procedures from European postal services.
The French post company “La Post” told the French Press Agency on Friday that it will suspend sending parcels to the United States as of Monday, with the exception of gifts worth of 100 euros.
The German mail also intends to reduce the number of parcels and goods sent “temporarily”, according to what the “DHL” group announced Friday, to also exclude the parcels authorized as gifts and those that do not exceed $ 100.
The US administration has confirmed that it would eliminate the exemption of small parcels entering the United States from the fees from August 29.
