Real Madrid, the champion of Spain and Europe, maintains its full chances of competing for all possible titles this season, despite the many injuries that have struck the team’s players.
The Spanish newspaper “AS” reported that Real Madrid has suffered 27 absences since the start of the 2024-2025 season, which would reduce the rotation margin for Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, and yet the team is competing strongly in all tournaments.
Real Madrid has the opportunity to take the lead in the Spanish League if it wins the postponed match against Valencia, as it stands two points behind Barcelona, the current leader.
The team’s hopes of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League also revived after last Tuesday’s victory over Italian Atalanta 3-2 at the latter’s home in the sixth round of the league stage.
The Spanish newspaper explained, “The list of injuries suffered by Real Madrid this season is longer than the number of matches played by coach Ancelotti’s team.”
Real Madrid is exposed to more than one injury in each match, as the Atalanta match was the 23rd match for the Merengues, and its players suffered from 27 different injuries, whether severe, muscular, or just simple pain.
At this stage of last season, Real Madrid suffered 19 injuries, which is 8 fewer than the current season.
Recently, it has become rare for the Royal Club to finish a match without one of its players joining the Real Madrid Hospital, especially since the team’s matches against Getafe and Athletic Bilbao in La Liga were one of a series of 8 matches that led to a total of 12 players being injured.
Below is a list of the most important Real Madrid players who were injured this season:
- Belgian Thibaut Courtois.
- Brazilian Eder Militao: He will miss the end of the season due to a torn cruciate ligament.
- Spaniard Dani Carvajal: He will miss the end of the season due to a torn cruciate ligament.
- French quartet Edouard Camavinga, Aurelien Chaoamini, Kylian Mbappe and Ferland Mendy.
- Brazilian duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrigo Goes.
- Moroccan Ibrahim Diaz.
- Spanish duo Dani Ceballos and Lucas Vazquez.
- Englishman Jude Bellingham.
Despite the crowded match schedule, no player missed the team for 5 consecutive matches, due to international eligibility periods in September, October and November 2024.
Real Madrid succeeded in overcoming these absences and injuries one after another to continue the struggle for the league title and remain alive in the Champions League, while it sees the Confederations Cup (Intercontinental) as an opportunity to achieve its second title in a season full of obstacles and injuries, according to AS.
Real Madrid opened the current season by winning the European Super Cup after defeating the Italian Atalanta (2-0), and is now looking forward to winning the Intercontinental title, when the final is played next Wednesday against the winner of the match between Al-Ahly of Egypt and Pachuca of Mexico in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Until this moment, 7 Real Madrid players have survived the curse of injuries, and they are:
- Spaniard Fran Garcia.
- German Antonio Rudiger.
- Uruguayan Federico Valverde.
- Croatian Luka Modric.
- Turkish Arda Guler.
- Brazilian Andric.
