Agence France-Presse quoted leaders of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) confirming that the two movements agreed to form a joint committee to manage the Gaza Strip in the next phase of the war.

According to the French Agency, the two parties called the joint committee the “Community Support Committee.”

The agency quoted a Hamas official as saying, “After a constructive dialogue held in Cairo over the past two days under the auspices of our brothers in Egypt, Hamas and Fatah agreed to a draft agreement to form a community support committee” to take over the administration of the Gaza Strip in coordination with the Palestinian government.

The agency also attributed to a Fatah official his confirmation that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas “will issue a presidential decree appointing this committee after adopting the draft agreement.”

Yesterday, Monday, Agence France-Presse quoted Hamas leaders as saying that a delegation from the movement met on Sunday evening in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with a leadership delegation from Fatah and officials in Egyptian General Intelligence to discuss ways to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas leader said that the movement’s delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, also met with the Fatah movement’s delegation, led by Azzam al-Ahmad, a member of the Executive Committee of the Liberation Organization, “and discussed with him the arrangements for the internal Palestinian situation and the management of the Gaza Strip once the war ends.”

He stated that the discussions with Fatah were taking place “under Egyptian sponsorship” and “focused on forming the independent administrative committee to manage the sector and supervise aid, crossings and reconstruction, in agreement with all Palestinian factions.”

Jamal Obaid, a member of the Supreme Leadership Authority of the Fatah movement in Gaza, confirmed in a phone call to Agence France-Presse that the meeting took place, considering that the meetings between the two movements are “important for putting the Palestinian house in order.”

During a press conference on the sidelines of an international ministerial conference for Gaza relief hosted by the Egyptian capital with the participation of 103 international and Arab delegations, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati said yesterday, Monday, that two delegations from the Hamas and Fatah movements are consulting in the capital, Cairo, to reach a common understanding regarding the management of Gaza under the control of the Palestinian Authority.
