The Sudanese army announced, on Tuesday evening, the crash of a military plane while taking off from Wadi Sidna Airport in Omdurman, west of the capital, killing and wounding military and civilians.
“One of our planes (without mentioning its type) crashed while taking off from Wadi Sidna airport (military) this evening, and we counted a number of martyrs, the injured, military and civilians (without mentioning a number),” the army said in a statement.
The statement pointed out that “the injured were assisted, while the firefighting teams managed to control the fire at the site of the plane crash with hot housing 75 in the city of Omdurman.”
The army did not explain the causes of the accident or the number of victims.
A military source asked not to be named, he told the French Press Agency that “Antonov’s military plane was crashed in Omdurman and the death of its crew and a number of officers on board,” noting that the cause of the accident was a “technical failure.”
For its part, the Karari Resistance Committees in Omdurman (a civil committee) said in a brief statement that “a number of bodies and injuries arrived at Al -Nou Al -Nu Educational Hospital (government) in Omdurman, after a plane belonging to the armed forces crashed.”
Sudanese activists on social media circulated videos of a shattered plane and the fire burned there.

The incident came in the day after the rapid support forces announced that it had shot down a military plane belonging to the Sudanese army in the city of Nyala, the capital of the state of South Darfur in the west of the country.
