Blind in Egypt .. 7 girls drowned and 28 injury in one of the most dangerous beaches of Alexandria Varieties


A training trip to students of an academic in Egypt turned into a humanitarian tragedy on the “Abu Talat” beach in Alexandria Governorate, after a mass drowning accident that resulted in the death of 7 students, and 28 others were wounded.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of students went to the beach as part of an entertaining training activity, but a large number of them descended to the sea at the same time, although the area is known for its seriousness due to the strength of marine currents and high waves.

Students coming from Sohag Governorate (southern Egypt) went to the water, despite the issuance of prior warnings and official ban on swimming in this beach.

The students were surprised by a strong water current, pulling them inward, which led to a state of confusion and collective fear that ended with the disaster. The rescue teams of the Civil Protection Department rushed to the accident site, and were able to retrieve the bodies of the victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals to receive the necessary aid. Medical sources confirmed that some cases are still under intensive care.

Local authorities move

For its part, Alexandria Governorate issued a statement declaring an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident, including the extent of commitment to safety procedures during the trip, and to ensure that there are savior or adequate supervision on the beach. She explained that Abu Talat Beach is not intended for swimming at certain times due to the danger of its waves.

According to the medical statement, 11 cases of the hospital were discharged after their conditions stabilized and the Public Prosecution interrogated them about the details of the accident, and while 14 students are still receiving treatment under observation with a gradual improvement in their condition, 4 of them were placed inside the intensive care units.

Angry reactions

The accident sparked a wave of shock and sadness among the families, as the students of the students gathered in front of the hospital, demanding that those responsible for the failure be held accountable. On social media platforms, the tragedy turned into a public conversation, as many Egyptians expressed their sad feelings and their questions about the absence of censorship and the weak protection measures on dangerous beaches.

The beaches of the west of Alexandria are among the most dangerous in Egypt, as it is famous for its strong water currents that make swimming fraught with risks, especially for those who are not good at swimming. These beaches are witnessed annually repeated drowning accidents due to the strength of the waves and some of them lacking sufficient rescue equipment, and despite the ongoing warnings, some vacationers and students insist on swimming, which leads to the repetition of tragedies.

Abu Talat Beach is classified among the most dangerous beaches of Al -Ajmi, as its geographical nature and its location near the mouth of the Nile River, where its waters mixed with sea water, led to the formation of severe water currents and continuous seminars over the year. The beach has been famous for its extreme danger that swimming has been officially banned for many years.
