Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Dmitry Chernyshenko held a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation Enrique Horta Gonzalez.
It was Enrique Horta Gonzalez’s first official event as head of the Cuban diplomatic mission.
From the Cuban side, the event was also attended by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of the Republic of Cuba, Carlos Luis Jorge Mendez, and the President of the Gaviota tourist group, Carlos Miguel Latuff Carmenate. From the Russian side – representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the tourism industry.
Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated Enrique Horta Gonzalez on his appointment to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation and wished him successful, intense and productive work in Moscow.
“We are currently working closely on the implementation of the agreements reached at the negotiations between our presidents, Vladimir Putin and Miguel Diaz-Canel on May 7 in Moscow. Specific steps have been outlined within the framework of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. We strive to find solutions that will allow us to develop mutually acceptable long-term opportunities for interaction,” said the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government.
Enrique Horta Gonzalez emphasized that bilateral relations between Russia and Cuba are based on a long history and acquire special significance in the context of the countries’ strategic partnership.
“Our political relations are showing excellent results. We have dialogue at various levels, and this emphasizes that we have many common points and that our positions coincide on many issues,” he said.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister once again expressed condolences in connection with the death on September 16 of the outstanding statesman, co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Ricardo Cabrisas: “We will always remember him as a supreme professional who had amazing determination and ability to work, a wonderful a person with whom it was very comfortable to work and communicate.”
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba added that the republic will appoint a new co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
The key topic of the meeting was tourism. Dmitry Chernyshenko paid special attention to opportunities for bilateral cooperation within the framework of the international forum “Travel!” and the Forum of Tourist Territories.
“Now the tourism sector in the world is becoming an important economic engine. The contribution of this industry to global GDP in 2024 is more than $11 trillion, which is equivalent to 10% of global GDP. The possibilities for cooperation between Russia and Cuba in the field of tourism have enormous prospects. For our investors, you can make a presentation of your investment projects within the framework of the international forum “Travel!”, which will be held in June next year. In Moscow, you are participating in the Forum of Tourist Territories. I am confident that new contacts will allow us to find ways of mutually beneficial cooperation,” noted the Russian Deputy Prime Minister.
The Gaviota tourist group takes part in the Russian Energy Week and the Forum of Tourist Territories.
Enrique Horta Gonzalez called cooperation in the tourism sector proof that our countries can successfully strengthen trade and economic ties and make them more dynamic.
“We have the intention to move tourism forward. In the course of fulfilling my duties as the head of the diplomatic mission, I am ready to assist Russian and Cuban institutions and organizations in every possible way in order to further develop our trade and economic relations, as well as cooperation in other areas,” said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation.
