The 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev.

“Today we are holding the first full-format meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation with a renewed composition. We are determined to actively work to deepen trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between our countries and implement major mutually beneficial projects. In general, Russian-Turkmen cooperation has a solid foundation and continues to develop dynamically. Over the first 7 months of this year, trade turnover increased by more than 30%. It is important to continue to increase trade turnover, including through the possibility of Russian marketplaces entering the Turkmen market. In addition, we interact on issues of industry, energy, culture and education,” said Marat Khusnullin.

During the meeting, significant attention was paid to the development of transport infrastructure. Measures are being implemented to increase the dynamics of transportation by rail, road and air transport. Work continues on the development of the North-South international transport corridor.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the successful presence of Russian business in key sectors of the Turkmen economy, noting that Russian companies, such as KamAZ, have been working in Turkmenistan for many years, and in the oil and gas sector, Russian enterprises supply equipment and carry out complex repairs.

“The Russian market is one of our priorities. We are interested in both importing and exporting our products, and see significant potential for developing cooperation in the fields of industry, digitalization and agriculture. We will also facilitate joint events for the business communities of the two countries. In the field of education, we are interested in studying Russian digital solutions to form a unified educational system. The minutes of today’s meeting cover all areas of bilateral relations, and we, for our part, will make all the necessary efforts to implement the planned measures,” Nokerguly Atagulyev said.

As a result of the meeting, a package of documents was signed, including the minutes of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, action plans for cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Russia and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, between Rosreestr and the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan. In addition, an agreement on technological and marketing cooperation was signed between the St. Petersburg and Turkmen Commodity and Raw Materials Exchanges, an agreement between the customs services of the two countries on the organization of a simplified procedure for carrying out customs operations when moving goods and transport services between Russia and Turkmenistan. Three memorandums of cooperation in the field of equestrian sports and horse breeding were also signed.

More than 50 representatives of relevant departments and companies took part in the work of the commission from the Russian side. Within the framework of the intergovernmental commission, negotiations between the administration of St. Petersburg and the mayor’s office of Ashgabat also took place.

Marat Khusnullin also held a working meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Turkmen head of state for the opportunity to discuss issues of strategic partnership between the countries. The prospects for cooperation in key industries were discussed. The parties also discussed transport issues, as well as the issue of shallowing the Caspian Sea, and outlined ways for further interaction.

“The leaders of our countries – Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Serdar Gurbangulyevich Berdimuhamedov – pay constant attention to strengthening bilateral relations. This year we celebrated the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War together. We appreciate that in Turkmenistan, as in Russia, they carefully preserve the memory of the courage and heroism of our ancestors, who fought together against fascism,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

In addition, Marat Khusnullin, during his working visit to Turkmenistan, visited the new smart city of Arkadag, where he got acquainted with the experience of Turkmen colleagues in the field of housing construction, integrated development of territories and improvement. The visit program also included a visit to the International Academy of Horse Breeding named after. Aba Annaev, the city circus and the main mosque of the country “Turkmenbashi Rukhy” in the village of Kipchak.
