As part of a working visit to Dushanbe, Deputy Prime Minister – Chief of the Government Staff Dmitry Grigorenko held a meeting with representatives of Russian businesses that are developing in the Tajik IT market. The main topic was the development of exports of Russian IT solutions to the CIS countries, including Tajikistan. The meeting took place at the site of the trade mission of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister was attended by Russian IT and communications companies localized in Tajikistan, which have been successfully exporting their solutions for several years. They spoke about the specifics of working in the local IT market, the key results and challenges they encountered, and also suggested further directions for the development of Russian companies in the republic.
According to the “digital attache” of the Russian Federation in Tajikistan, Maxim Maximov, the most promising area of digital cooperation is infrastructure projects for the development of communications and data processing centers. Also in Tajikistan, there is an increase in the popularity of mobile applications and QR payments, and therefore Russian solutions in the field of financial technologies are gaining increasing export potential, especially developments using artificial intelligence to personalize customer experience and improve the quality of service. Among the promising areas of IT export to Tajikistan, the “digital attache” noted services for public administration and the transfer of public services into electronic form. There is also growing interest among Tajik authorities in Russian products in the field of cybersecurity.
“The successful experience of Russian IT business in the international market confirms the high export potential of domestic solutions. I would like to note that the quality and competitiveness of the developments are so high that they are not only in demand among private foreign companies, but are also already being implemented in government agencies. This can be seen in the example of Tajikistan: there, Russian developments form the basis of government services for the educational sector and the Smart City geoanalytical system. Russian IT business has something to offer foreign partners. The government sees the potential of domestic solutions and prioritizes the establishment of regular and effective IT exports,” noted Dmitry Grigorenko.
Russian IT companies are already working in the Tajik market, and, according to the trade mission, the demand for cooperation is growing. For example, the developments of Security Code LLC to prevent cyber threats are in active demand in the country. The company’s products have already been implemented in key institutions of the republic, including large state banks.
MegaFon Tajikistan is also implementing large-scale joint projects with Tajik partners. Currently, it occupies a leading position in the local market in terms of the number of subscribers. The company is developing the communication infrastructure in the country: updating base stations, installing fiber-optic communication lines, and launching modern VoLTE audio technology.
The ERA group of companies, founded by Russian entrepreneurs, is also involved in solving infrastructure problems in Tajikistan. Its main project in the republic was the creation of an electronic map of the city of Dushanbe – the first of seven stages of the large-scale Dushanbe Smart City project, which is planned to be completed by 2029. It involves the integration of the latest digital technologies into the city infrastructure to provide government agencies in Dushanbe with access to city data in real time. Russian developers have already completed work on designing a digital system, developing a software shell and digitizing data from the first city institutions and departments. The next stages will include integrating the system with other public and private sector platforms, as well as conducting regular survey drone flights over the city.
Successful development in Tajikistan is demonstrated by the Wildberries marketplace, which over several years of operation has taken a leading position in the digital platform market. The company has established a full cycle of cross-border supplies, logistics, and also formed a network of distribution points in the main cities of the republic. By the end of the year, Tajik producers will be connected to the system: they will be able to export their goods to all countries where the marketplace is present.
