Israel announced its rejection of the decision adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in a wide majority to revive the two -state solution, and described it as a “shame”, considering that it encourages “the continuation of the war.”
On Friday, the United Nations General Assembly voted with an overwhelming majority on a declaration that defines “concrete, specific and irreversible steps” towards a two -state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
The advertisement, which consists of 7 pages, is the fruit of an international conference held at the United Nations last July, hosted by Saudi Arabia and France and boycotted the United States and Israel.
The decision to support the announcement took 142 supporters and 10 opposition votes, while 12 countries abstained from the vote.
The decision was opposed by Israel and the United States, along with Argentina, Hungary, Micronesia, Enoro, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Tonga.
“Israel categorically rejects the decision of the United Nations General Assembly,” Israeli Foreign Ministry, which is a “shameful decision”, accusing the commission of being a “political circus separate from reality,” Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Orine Marmastein said on the X platform.
He added that “dozens of advertising advertising items (…) does not include any indication of a simple fact that Hamas is the only responsible for the continuation of the war, by rejecting the return of hostages and removing it,” considering that “the decision does not enhance the peace solution, but on the contrary, Hamas encourages the continuation of the war.”
Arab and Islamic welcome
On the other hand, Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al -Sheikh welcomed the vote of the United Nations General Assembly, and considered it an “important step towards ending the occupation.”
“I welcome the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly of the draft resolution supporting the New York Declaration on the implementation of a two -state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” Sheikh said through the X platform.
He added that “the decision expresses the international will supporting the rights of our people, and constitutes an important step towards ending the occupation and embodying our independent state on the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
On Friday, Arab and Islamic countries and organizations welcomed the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly a decision that supports the “New York Declaration” regarding recognition of the Palestinian state, considering this new support for Palestinian rights and a step towards implementing a two -state solution.
This vote comes before the world leaders meeting on September 22 on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, where Britain is expected to be officially recognized by a Palestinian state.
