European Troika considers the re -imposition of sanctions on Iran news

|

The Financial Times reported yesterday, Tuesday, that France, Germany and Britain informed the United Nations of its willingness to re -impose sanctions on Iran if it did not return to negotiations with the international community on its nuclear program.

The report added, quoting a letter seen by the newspaper, that foreign ministers of the so -called European Troika group wrote to the United Nations yesterday, Tuesday, to indicate the possibility of the re -imposition of sanctions or what is known as the “Snap Back” mechanism unless Iran is taking action.

“We have made it clear that if Iran is not ready to reach a diplomatic solution before the end of August 2025, or it does not seize the opportunity to extend, the group of the three European countries is ready to activate the mechanism of re -imposing sanctions,” the ministers said in the letter.

The warning of the European Troika Group comes after “serious, frank and detailed” talks with Iran in Istanbul last month, and it is the first direct meeting since the Israeli and American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Iran had vowed earlier to provide a “proportional and appropriate response” if the European signatures restore the Iranian nuclear agreement concluded in 2015 the imposition of United Nations sanctions according to what is known as the “Snap Pak” mechanism.

A 2015 agreement was signed between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States – in addition to Germany. The agreement has limited Iran’s stock of enriched uranium to 202.8 kilograms at low fertilization levels.

The United States withdrew unilaterally from the agreement on May 8, 2018, during the first term of President Donald Trump, and re -imposed widespread sanctions on Tehran.

On June 13, Israel launched, with American support, a 12 -day attack on Iran, targeting military, nuclear and civil sites, as well as senior military leaders and nuclear scientists.

Iran responded with missile strikes and attacks with Israeli military and intelligence facilities. An American ceasefire between Tehran and Tel Aviv was announced on June 24.
