The Defense Minister and head of the Dutch military intelligence, Robin Breikmals and Peter Reesink, said that their country’s intelligence services “have gathered evidence of Russia’s use of chemical weapons banned in Ukraine on a large scale.”
They added that this use included dropping a suffocating substance using drones to force soldiers out of the trenches so that they can shoot.
Defense Minister Robin Breiklens called for more striking sanctions on Moscow. “The main conclusion is that we can confirm that Russia is intensifying the use of chemical weapons,” he said, in an interview with Reuters.
He added, “This increase in the intensity of use is worrying, because it is part of a trend that we notice for several years, as Russia’s chemical weapons use in this war has become more normal, strict and widespread.”
Brequitance indicated that at least 3 deaths of Ukrainians were associated with chemical weapons, while more than 2,500 people in the battlefield of the Ukrainian health authorities have been associated with symptoms associated with chemical weapons.
He added that Russia’s increase in chemical weapons is a threat not only for Ukraine, but also for other countries.
“We have to increase pressure more. This means studying the imposition of more sanctions, specifically preventing Russia from participating in international bodies such as the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons,” he added.
For his part, the head of the Dutch Military Intelligence Service, Peter Reesink, said that these conclusions are based on “our independent intelligence information, so we monitored them ourselves based on our own investigations.”
Risink talked about “Thousands of Cases” to use chemical weapons, with also indicating a number issued by Ukraine for 9,000 cases.
The Dutch army and public intelligence services, in cooperation with foreign partners, say they have discovered concrete evidence of the increase in the frequency of Russian chemical weapons. This includes strengthening research capabilities and recruiting experts to develop chemical weapons.
American accusations
A year ago, the United States accused Russia for the first time of using chloropakrin, a more toxic chemical compound than riots, and Ukraine talks about the presence of thousands of cases of Russia’s use of chemical weapons.
Chloropakrin can cause severe irritation in the skin, eyes and respiratory system. It may cause burns in the mouth, stomach, nausea and vomiting, as well as difficulty or shortness of breath if it is swallowed.
The Chemical Weapons Prohibition Organization included chloropakrin on the list of banned materials that cause suffocation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, on Wednesday, that the Federal Security Agency discovered a Ukrainian bomb of explosive devices in the east of the country containing chloropakrin. Ukraine constantly denies such accusations.
The Hague -based chemical weapons organization in the Netherlands said last year that the initial accusations made by the two countries were “not proven enough.”
It is noteworthy that Russia is a member of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and, like the United States, destroyed its declared stocks of chemical weapons.
