Michael Harari: Attempting to restore and start the energy sector in Syria and its regional implications



One of the most important sectors that will allow Syria to start rehabilitating the economy. Until the war in 2011, Syria provided its energy needs from its sources, and even managed to export quantities that contributed quite a bit to the state budget.

Syria’s oil and gas exports were about 20 percent of government revenue at the time. Syria exported about 383,000 octopus barrels a day before the war. The two refineries in the country, Banias and Hums stood in the country’s internal demand.
