A poll – leased by Maariv newspaper – showed that 46% of Israelis believe that former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is the most appropriate person to take over the position of government, compared to 39% preferring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The poll also showed that Netanyahu is still outperforming other opposition leaders, Benny Gantz, Avigdor Lieberman and Yair Lapid.
According to the poll, it was found that 70% of Arab voters prefer the leader of the opposition to Lapid. 49% of them support Benny Gantz, while 46% choose Naftali Bennett.
The elections are scheduled to be held next year 2026, and Netanyahu – who is required for international justice to commit war crimes in Gaza – refuses to call the opposition to early, in light of the continuation of the war on Gaza.
A difficult situation
According to Maariv newspaper, the situation of the Netanyahu camp will be more difficult if former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett fought the elections. In this case, the Netanyahu camp will receive 45 seats and the opposition camp at 65, and 10 seats for Arab deputies.
