The Democratic world breathed a sigh of relief two weeks ago, when Romania (in too small) took advantage of George Simmune’s presidency, to an extreme artist fan Vladimir Putin. An even more decisive battle is now taking place in Poland – a country that is size, location and weight in Europe make elections today (Sunday, June 1) critical for the future of liberal democracy.
The Poles go to the second round of the presidential election today and decide between the mayor of Warsaw Liberal Rishlie Tashskowski and Carol Navarotsky, a nationally nominated “law” party. Seemingly, this is a routine political confrontation. In practice, this is a referendum on the future of democracy in the country, with implications for the world and Israel.
