Within a year, a decade, or perhaps a generation, Gaza will be restored with global support and funding. This will happen within the framework of Israeli-Palestinian peace, which is still too early to know what its nature will be, but the legal and international basis for it that exists in the decisions of the International Court of Justice and in the decisions of the United Nations is the establishment of the State of Palestine within the 67 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
After this happens and we look back on the devastation of Gaza at the hands of the State of Israel, what will be its place in history? Will it be just another chapter in Israel’s wars? I’m afraid not. It is possible that the destruction of Gaza by Israel will be a defining event in the history of the State of Israel, the Jewish people, and also of Judaism itself, like the conquest of the land by Joshua, the destruction of the Temple, the establishment of the Sanhedrin, the Holocaust, and the establishment of the State of Israel. And I will explain.
